Psychology degrees

Study human behaviours, experiences and relationships and take your first step to becoming a Chartered Psychologist.

At Brighton our accredited degree programmes take an applied approach. You will have opportunities to explore other areas of social science and to spend time on a voluntary work placement in the local community. We place a strong emphasis upon developing the range of skills required to understand and evaluate psychological theory and research. You will graduate able to critically evaluate complex information, problem solve and reason scientifically.

You can pick modules to make specialist pathways – like forensic, biological, security, cognitive – which can support you in your career. There are also research methods modules including Community Engagement which is a chance to carry out a placement. Put learning into practice on an optional work placement with a not-for-profit organisation. We will help you find a placement that is right for you – great for improving your knowledge, your cv and for building contacts with people and organisations important for your future career.

Tailor your studies

Study developmental, cognitive, social and biological psychology and through option modules explore the areas that meet your interests and aspirations. Or by choosing one of our joint honours degrees you can also explore criminology or sociology, or combine psychology with counselling studies.

Professional-standard facilities

Learn in our multi-purpose psychology resource laboratories where you’ll develop skills and insight carrying out interactive and computer-based one-to-one experiments and through focus groups. Use specialist eye-tracking equipment to help you understand health conditions such as autism and diabetes – as well as the psychology behind our shopping habits. You will also benefit form an open-access teaching space and a dedicated psychology technician who will support your experiments.
